New ComedySportz Arena opens up.

Buffalo ComedySportz moves into its new home 16 years in the making.

Located at 4476 Main Street, Amherst NY 14226, formerly the home of O’Connell and Company. Dubbed “The Arena”, this 99-seat theatre will serve as the main performance space and headquarters for Buffalo ComedySportz, Inc. Opening day is scheduled for October 3rd at 7 pm.

Who are these ComedySportzpeople?
ComedySportz Clubs and Theatres are independently owned businesses licensed by the World Comedy League, Inc. There are over 21 teams across the US, UK and Germany. The players are professional improvisational ‘actletes’ who’ve been trained in CSz workshops and classes. Some have played since the founding of the World Comedy League in 1984. Buffalo played its first match on November 6, 1993.
What is a ComedySportz match like?

Similar to, ‘Whose Line Is It?’, but set up like a sporting event, Singing of the NationalAnthem starts off every match.AComedySportz match features two teams of improvisational ‘actletes’competing for laughs and points based on audience suggestions.Areferee keeps things moving along and calls penalties and fouls. An average of seven to ten improv games are played during each match. For example, in the game
"Fairytale Replay” a team will perform a scene from a familiar fairytale and then based on audience suggestions, change it up a little. Imagine if you will, Cinderella in the Terminator or Jack and the Beanstalk done in the song style of Reggae. In “DVDthe referee, using an imaginary remote, controls a made up movie and the ‘actletes’forward, rewind, pause… you get the idea. Every show is different with different players, different games, and different audiences supplying new suggestions. The fans judge the scenes and games and ultimately decide the winners and losers. ComedySportz also asks willing volunteers to join in on the onstage fun for a game or two each match. The volunteers have fun and the audience loves it.

Who should I bring to ComedySportz?

Unlike some forms of improvisational comedy, ComedySportz is great for audiences of all ages. Everyone has a good time and none of the ‘actletes’step beyond the boundaries of good taste. However if they do…well, you’ll just have to come and see a match to find out how they’re dealt with. If you think "clean comedy" is boring, you owe it to yourself to check ComedySportz.
