If you were to visit the website for Punchline Magazine this morning you would've seen 2 new stories... 1. "Pete Dominik Interviews Stephen Colbert".... and 2.
"Buffalo Comedians Create Comedy Scene."  Punchline Magazine got wind of The Buffalo News article (see last post below) and decided to pick up the story themselves.  Take a read by clicking here

Also, make sure to take a look at our calendar (link up top).  There are comedy happenings all week, including Buffalo Sketch Comedy's Improv Co-Op Night at Merge at 10pm Wednesday (here's the facebook event link).

Greetings comedy fans!

Recently I have received an unprecedented number of calls from people interested in trying stand up comedy, and our audience seems to have grown steadily over the last six months. What does that say about Buffalo Comedy? It's good. Not only is it good, it's necessary. Good comedy is necessary. This city has spent years being the butt of the joke, and we Buffalonians have always managed to take it in stride. There seems to be an air about us B-LO folks these days, not only are we taking it in stride, we are claiming ownership of our past, our present and most importantly, our future.

I've done a few interviews as of late and people have asked me how it feels to be a comedian in a city without a club. Honestly, I don't mind it. The worst thing that could happen would be to get a joke of a club that doesn't match the talent we have in this city. A talent base that is just growing and getting stronger... besides, we're from Buffalo, we don't expect help from anyone else, and we don't need it, we are the city of Good Neighbors, we've got this. So until the right club comes along, we will hold steady. Honing our craft, hitting the road and making a name for the kind of comedy that grows in a place like Buffalo. Real, no bullshit, fearless comedy. Because we own it, and we have nothing to lose...

I wanted to tell you something I read the other day, I think it speaks volumes of the energy our city has always had.

Frederick Law Olmstead had no background in Landscape architecture, whatsoever, and his first foray into the field was a little park called Central Park. It was soon after that the City of Buffalo commissioned him for our own city.

The Point is, this city is always on the lookout for raw talent and an independent spirit. Comedy feels right at home here.

Support Local Comedy.
It's cheap and locally grown.

This past Tuesday the Doin’ Time Comedy Showcase and BuffaloComedy.com got together and put on an ol’ fashioned roast of Buffalo Sports Legend and local commentator, Rob Ray. It was an amazing success. The crowd was fantastic and enthusiastic, and the comics were hilarious. The evening began with the singing of Oh Canada, by The Manipulators and the American anthem, performed by Tina Crapsi.

After the opening video, Greg Bauch, from WGR550 began the verbal assault, and for the next hour and a half legendary “enforcer” Rob Ray was met with a barrage of ego blows, and he took it all in stride, even stepping up to the mic to deliver a few zingers of his own ( none of his material was scripted and he was FUNNY, fyi) much to the delight of Sabres player Adam Mair, who was seated in the front row to watch the melee.

It was a phenomenal display of the comedic talent here in Buffalo and is something our city should be proud of. BuffaloComedy.com’s mission is to gain more exposure for our local talent and to build a positive image of our city. Yeah, we know Buffalo gets made fun, and we’re going to own it. We refuse to let the rest of the world laugh at us at our expense, if anyone is going to laugh at us, its going to be us…dammit..

Let’s face it, our sports teams aren’t good finishers ( Bandits not included). We know that. It’s time we dish back a little for every Wide Right, and No Goal moment we’ve experienced in our city’s sports history. We would like your help.

Tell us who you think should be next. Baby Joe? Lynch? Kelly? Thomas? I think we would need a little while before we dare ask Norwood, but don’t think it hasn’t crossed our minds. Once we’ve destroyed our athletes, then we will move on to our politicians, so send your suggestions in! (or better yet, click "comments" above and leave a comment letting us know).

We’ve got new pics and video up from the roast, check em out!

First of all, thank you to everyone who's checked out BuffaloComedy.com thus far.  We've had over 1,100 hits in our first week alone, not too shabby.

We're going to try and post updates once a week to let you know what's going on this coming week as well as highlight the work of others through a video of the week.  So, here's one from Buffalo Sketch Comedy:

If you're looking for live entertainment this week, Tuesday night you can see 10 stand-up comics for $3 at The Doin Time Comedy Showcase at Nietzsche's, 8:00pm-ish.  Thursday features a 7:00pm ComedySportz improv show at Magruders and a 10:00pm Francis Bacon Experiment improv show at Staples.  ComedySportz also has a Sunday show at The Historic Riviera Theatre (click on the calendar page for more info).  And don't forget to get your Charity Roast of Rob Ray tickets for the following week!

That's it for now.  A few more comics and improv groups have been added to the site, please pass other comics/troupes along to us so we can continue to add more (see the contact info on the right).  Thanks Buffalo!

Hello and welcome to BuffaloComedy.com.  What's that, you ask?

BuffaloComedy.com is an effort to build and promote the Buffalo comedy scene on a local and national level.  This includes stand-up comics, improv and sketch troupes, comedic songwriters, and really anyone that performs or produces comedy.  The purpose of this website is not only to provide a list of performers and performances, but to serve as a forum for performers (as well as supporters) to discuss comedy in Buffalo.

(Yup - I copied and pasted that blurb from the text on the right).

We've been reaching out to Buffalo stand-up comics, improv troupes, and sketch groups looking to create a catalog of all the hilarious home-grown talent Buffalo has to offer.  We're only listing those comics/troupes/groups who ask to be listed, so if you know of some Buffalo talent that you don't see on the website - send them our way!  We'll also be providing a calendar of events so you can easily find where the funny is happening right here in our Queen City! Now to the BIG NEWS!  The Doin' Time Comedy Showcase has been holding steady for the past three years every Tuesday at Nietzsche's. If you know anything about the recent history of comedy in Buffalo, you know that is a reason to celebrate. In conjunction with the launch of BuffaloComedy.com, we are proud to announce the Roast of Buffalo Sabres Alum and sports commentator, Rob Ray. That's right, Rob Ray (see video below).

To say we're excited about this is a gross understatement.  It's going to be one hell of a night to remember, so get your tickets early (to learn more check out our Roast of Rob Ray page).

Feel free to leave us a comment (click 'comments' up above) and let us know whatcha think so far.
